If the Owners Were Serious

At this time of year, I'm usually brimming with unbridled enthusiasm about the new baseball season. But thanks to the owner-imposed lockout over the lack of a collective bargaining agreement, I fluctuate between being depressed, pissed off, and indifferent.

If the owners were serious about getting a new deal done, they wouldn't have locked out the players. 

If the owners were serious, they wouldn't have waited weeks before negotiating.

If the owners were serious, they wouldn't have canceled the first week of spring training games.

If the owners were serious, they'd be concerned about alienating and losing fans while games get longer.

If the owners were serious, and that unhappy with the economic state of the game, they'd sell their teams to people who actually respect the game. 

If the owners were serious, we'd be talking about starting shortstops, new outfielders, and fifth starters while the sides worked to find a new agreement while working under the old one. 

The owners are not serious people. They're a group of obscenely rich selfish assholes trying to figure out a way to get an even bigger slice of their already ridiculously lucrative pie. They clearly don't care about the players, fans, team employees, and stadium workers who are the ones who suffer the longer this drags out. They're in it for themselves. F the owners.
